Collage Pendant

Designed by Louise Campbell and first shown at the 2004 Copenhagen Furniture Fair before launching in 2005, the Collage pendant was inspired by natural daylight. Its multiple laser-cut layers and patterns recreate the soft, dynamic quality of filtered light, creating a unique interplay of light and shadow.

Louise Campbell is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Danish design — a Copenhagen-based designer of Danish-English parentage whose work is known for combining strict craft discipline with a playful, experimental spirit. With Collage, she set out to capture the feeling of sunlight falling through leaves: three laser-cut acrylic screens are layered behind one another, their organic patterns overlapping so that the bulb itself disappears from view. The result is exactly what the name promises — a collage of light, where each layer softens and scatters the one behind it. For Louis Poulsen, whose design philosophy has always centred on shaping light rather than fixtures, Campbell's pendant was a natural fit.

In the home, Collage is at its best where you spend long evenings looking toward the light: over a dining table, a reading corner or an open-plan kitchen. Because the layered screens swallow glare so effectively, it can hang at eye level without discomfort — a real advantage in compact apartments where the dining table often doubles as a desk. The lace-like shadow play it casts on walls and ceiling adds a sense of depth to small rooms, doing the decorative work of artwork and lighting in a single piece.
