VL Studio Table/Floor Lamp

The VL Studio Lamp, designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen for Radiohuset in the 1940s and reintroduced in 2022, casts a soft, diffused light through mouth-blown opal glass on polished brass. Available in three sizes (Ø150, Ø250, Ø320) for use as a table or floor lamp, and in a matte-black version for a more modern look — timeless design with versatile function.

Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894–1984) was one of the founding figures of Danish functionalism, and Radiohuset — the Copenhagen headquarters of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, inaugurated in 1945 — remains his most celebrated work. In the tradition of total design, his studio drew every element of the building, from furniture to fittings, and developed its lighting together with Louis Poulsen, the Danish manufacturer that also produced the icons of Poul Henningsen and Arne Jacobsen. Alongside the VL Studio, Lauritzen created the VL 38, VL 45 Radiohus and VL Ring Crown lamps for the same building. The VL Studio distils that heritage into a simple sphere of mouth-blown opal glass resting on a slender metal stem: the glass evens the light into a calm, glare-free glow, while the polished brass version develops a natural patina over the years and grows more personal with age.

Few lamps are as easy to live with. The smallest Ø150 fits a windowsill, a bookshelf or a bedside table; the Ø250 suits a desk or sideboard; and the Ø320 works on the floor, beside a sofa or reading chair — a flexibility that makes the VL Studio ideal for compact city apartments, where one well-chosen design must play several roles.
