NJP Table Lamp

The NJP Table by nendo's Oki Sato is a modern take on the classic architect lamp. Its minimalist design exposes the functional components — flexible arm joints with visible springs for easy positioning, and a rear shade opening that allows head adjustment and ventilation for the LED.

Launched with Louis Poulsen in 2015, the NJP Table is Tokyo studio nendo's tribute to the great task lamps of the twentieth century — and a rethink of what they should be now that the light source is an LED rather than a hot bulb. Oki Sato, who founded nendo in 2002, kept everything that made the architect lamp loved: the honest exposed springs, the articulated arm, the head that follows your hand. His signature twist sits at the top — a chimney-shaped shade with a rear opening that draws heat away from the LED while reflecting a soft measure of light backwards, so the arm of the lamp glows gently in the dark. It is a small poetic touch on an otherwise rigorously practical machine for working, and typical of nendo's gift for hiding delight inside utility.

On a desk, the NJP earns its keep daily: the head positions precisely over keyboard or paper, and because the LED sits high and shielded, you get a wide pool of light with no glare in your eyes — ideal for long evenings of work or study. It is just as comfortable on a console or bedside table, folded compact when not in use.
