Wohlert Pendant

Vilhelm Wohlert designed the Wohlert pendant in 1959 for Louis Poulsen. Created to suit rooms of many sizes, it emphasises easy installation, bulb changes and maintenance — functional design with a timeless aesthetic.

Wohlert is best remembered as an architect: together with Jørgen Bo he designed the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art north of Copenhagen, the 1958 landmark celebrated for the way its low pavilions weave architecture, art and landscape into one calm experience. The pendant that bears his name comes from that same moment and the same sensibility — an architect's lamp, drawn with a single confident curve and nothing to spare. Where many designers of the era pursued elaborate shade systems, Wohlert reduced the pendant to its essence: a softly rounded opal form that hangs in space like a full moon, glowing evenly in every direction. Louis Poulsen, the Danish lighting house behind Poul Henningsen's PH series and Arne Jacobsen's AJ lamps, produces it with the company's characteristic attention to glare-free, comfortable light.
