This set pairs a container and a soap dish, both with the Unikko poppy pressed into the surface in relief. Unikko dates from 1964, when Maija Isola answered a run of abstract prints with an entire range of florals, and the flower has stood for creativity at Marimekko ever since.
Both pieces are made in Portugal from Ecogres, a stoneware of 90% recycled ceramics whose industrial side streams give it a distinctive speckled look. The insides are clear-glazed and the outsides left unglazed, so oils and lotions may darken the surface over time. The soap dish measures 12.7 x 9.7 x 2.5 cm and the container 7.2 x 7.2 x 8.6 cm with a 2.5 dl capacity, in Sandstone and Volcanic Rock.
