designed by Verner Panton
Panthella, designed by Verner Panton with Louis Poulsen in 1971, is one of his most iconic designs. Its organic shape turns both stand and shade into reflectors for soft, non-glaring, atmospheric light — a perfect example of Panton's gift for captivating, inviting lighting.
The floor version is the grandest member of the Panthella family and the closest to Verner Panton’s original vision of furniture-scale light sculpture. Panton (1926–1998), who left Arne Jacobsen’s studio to pursue a radically more colourful modernism, was famous for designing complete environments — spaces where floor, furniture and light merged into a single experience — and the Panthella Floor was conceived as a room’s glowing anchor in exactly that spirit. Like the table versions, it has remained in production with Louis Poulsen since 1971, its white trumpet stem and hemispherical shade unchanged because nothing about them has dated.
Place it beside a sofa or reading chair, in a dim corner that needs life, or near a window where its sculptural profile shows by day. Because the light is bounced off the base and diffused through the shade, it illuminates a seating area without ever glaring — ideal next to a television or in a conversation corner. Even in a compact living room it can replace the ceiling light entirely for evenings, trading overhead brightness for a softer, lower atmosphere that makes small spaces feel calm rather than cramped.
