Holmegaard
Holmegaard was founded in 1825 on Zealand, where peat cut from the Holmegaard bog fired Denmark's first glassworks and the earliest output was plain green bottles. Two centuries on, the house still works in mouth-blown glass, and treats the marks of that process (slight asymmetry, variations in wall thickness, the odd bubble in a stem) as evidence rather than error.
Everyday ranges include the Flow Tumbler 35 cl and the Idéelle Beer Glass 25 cl, while the Minima Bottle with lid 90 cl keeps water on the table without a jug. Decorative work runs from the Soma Vase H16.5 cm in pink and orange to the sculptural Bubble candle holders.
Mouth-blown glass varies in capacity and weight between pieces, and prefers hand washing and gradual changes in temperature to a hot dishwasher cycle.
