Jens Møller-Jensen designed the Albertslund lighting family in 1963 as part of the urban plan for one of Denmark's great planned suburbs, honest, durable fixtures meant to give the new town a calm, unified night-time identity. The wall version keeps the icon's signatures: the horizontal “Saturn” ring that reflects light downward while letting some slip past to illuminate the fixture itself, the anti-glare ring, and three exposed bolts stating its construction in the functionalist spirit. Louis Poulsen has kept it in production ever since.
On a home it brings that civic calm to an entrance, balcony or covered passage: the ring spreads a soft, even pool that flatters brick and render without hard shadows, mount one at head height beside the door, or a pair in symmetry. Albertslund: a 1963 light for a new Danish town

Jens Møller-Jensen designed the Albertslund lights in 1963 for a new housing development in Albertslund, west of Copenhagen. A horizontal Saturn ring reflects light downward and lets some light the fixture itself. The wall lamp shares its design with the Albertslund post.

Glare kept in check
An anti-glare ring limits sideways glare, while the Saturn ring sends light down.

A better plan
When Møller-Jensen saw the lighting plan for the new town, he set out to design something better, more versatile and more affordable. Louis Poulsen first made 1,200 posts for Albertslund.
Ring, bolts and glass
The wall lamp keeps the family's signatures: the non-glare ring, three bolts and the Saturn ring that works as a reflector. The light is symmetrical, and the glass comes clear or partly frosted.
A family affair
The housing development itself was designed by architect Viggo Møller-Jensen, Jens's father. Louis Poulsen kept making the lights after Albertslund to meet demand in Denmark and across Europe.

Møller-Jensen trained first as a medical and technical instrument engineer, then graduated as an architect from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1964. He founded his own design office in 1967 and designed for Bang & Olufsen and Danish State Railways.
Using it at home
Which bulb does it take?
One E27 bulb of up to 100 W. An outdoor-rated warm white E27 LED is a good choice.
Short or long arm?
The short arm suits doors and narrow walls; the long arm holds the light further out over a path or facade.
Who should install it?
It is hardwired, so a certified electrician should install it.
Will the galvanised finish change?
Yes. The natural aluminium parts oxidise over time, which may look uneven at first.
How do I clean it?
Switch off and let it cool, then wipe the glass and metal with a soft, damp cloth.
