Description

The Fiore scarf is a light, sheer wool scarf printed with the Unikko pattern, finished with raw, unfinished edges at the ends. Unikko was created in 1964 by Maija Isola, at a time when Marimekko's collections were dominated by abstract prints, and the poppy has since become a symbol of creativity.

It is made of 100% wool in India and measures 70 x 180 cm, weighing about 90 g. It is available in Black / White and Dark Red / Dark Violet / Rose.

Wrap it loosely over a coat or drape it across the shoulders on cooler evenings, and explore the Marimekko collection.

Marimekko Kioski: Unikko goes streetwear, since 2019

DesignerMaija Isola1927–2001

Marimekko introduced Kioski in August 2019 as gender-neutral streetwear, made to bring the Unikko flower to a new, urban crowd. Today it covers pyjamas, bags, scarves, beanies, socks, mittens, hair clips and key chains, mixing Unikko with Basso, Tasaraita and newer prints.

Unikko for a new crowd

Marimekko created Kioski to introduce its best-known print, Unikko, to younger city dwellers. The line pairs the brand's most famous patterns with unisex street clothes and carries its values of creative courage.

Basso, a 1975 print by Maija Isola, covers pyjamas. Annika Rimala's Tasaraita stripe, made for Marimekko's first cotton jersey collection, meets a Unikko patch on beanies and socks. Antti Kekki's Lossi and Lotta Maija's Tuulahdus join them.

What it is made of

What it is made of

Beanies are knitted in Italy from wool, merino or mohair blends. Socks come from Portugal and Turkey in organic cotton blends. The Unikko Slim belt is Scandinavian leather from Marimekko's own production offcuts.

Materials

Organic cotton
Pyjamas, bags and most socks; wash with similar colours, at the temperature on the label.
Wool, merino and mohair
Beanies and scarves; hand wash lukewarm with wool detergent, do not soak, reshape to dry.
Recycled acrylic and zinc alloy
Hair clips with up to 70% recycled acrylic, and sturdy zinc alloy key chains.

Maija Isola drew Unikko in 1964, defying Armi Ratia's dislike of floral prints, and Basso followed in 1975. She designed for Printex and Marimekko from 1949 and created more than 500 prints. Kioski also draws on later Marimekko designers such as Antti Kekki and Lotta Maija.

Using it at home

How do I wash the beanies and scarves?

Hand wash in lukewarm water with a wool detergent, do not soak, reshape to dry and steam back into shape.

Is Kioski unisex?

Yes. Marimekko launched Kioski as a gender-neutral streetwear line.

What sock sizes are there?

Most styles come in 35–38, 39–42 and 43–46. Some styles use other size steps, so check the size list of each pair.

How does the Unikko Slim belt fasten?

It has no buckle. You tie it to the length you need, and a Unikko charm finishes the end.

How do I wash the pyjamas?
