The Kurre Kitchen Towel is printed in Helsinki with Aino-Maija Metsola's squirrel pattern from 2023 and has a hanging loop on the long edge. Extending her tales from the forest, Kurre shows a lively brood collecting and hiding nuts, first painted on paper with brush and ink.
The towel is woven from a blend of 48% recycled cotton, 31% organic cotton and 21% linen, a cloth with a naturally lively colour where small differences between pieces appear. It measures 43 x 70 cm in White / Light Blue / Toffee. Wash before use at the stated temperature and skip the fabric conditioner.
Hang it in the kitchen or use it as a small cloth for a bread basket, with more in the Marimekko collection.

Kurre: Aino-Maija Metsola's 2023 squirrels in ink
DesignerAino-Maija Metsola
Aino-Maija Metsola designed Kurre in 2023, extending her tales from the forest. A lively brood of squirrels gathers and hides nuts across the cloth, drawn with brush and ink on paper after the squirrels she watched in her childhood yard. It is printed in Helsinki on kitchen textiles.

Hand-drawn in ink
Brush and ink give the squirrels lively, uneven lines.
A childhood memory
The motif comes from the squirrels in the designer's childhood yard.
Printed in Helsinki
The cloth is printed at Marimekko's own factory.
Recycled fibres
Unbleached cotton panama with half the cotton recycled.

Squirrels at work
Kurre shows a busy group of squirrels collecting and stashing nuts. Metsola painted the original on paper with brush and ink, so the lines keep the movement of her hand. The squirrels seem to dart across the cloth.

Small scale for small pieces
The pot holder and oven mitt use Pieni Kurre, the small-scale version. Both are padded, with a filling that is half recycled polyester, and have a hanging loop for the hook by the hob.

A towel with character
The kitchen towel is a blend of 48% recycled cotton, 31% organic cotton and 21% linen, a cloth with a naturally lively surface. It measures 43 x 70 cm and has a hanging loop on the long edge.
Materials
- Unbleached cotton panama
- 50% recycled cotton; unbleached fibres keep a natural tone.
- Recycled polyester padding
- Insulates the mitt and pot holder against hot dishes.
- Cotton and linen blend
- Absorbent and quick drying for everyday kitchen work.
