Annika Rimala's 1968 even stripe, made for the bed
DesignerAnnika Rimala1936–2014
Annika Rimala designed Tasaraita, the even stripe, in 1968 as cotton jersey clothing for everyone, whatever their age, size or gender. The same stripe now covers an organic cotton jersey pillow case and duvet cover. Both stretch a little and settle quickly, like a favourite T-shirt.

A stripe for everyone
Tasaraita was meant from the start to be worn by anyone, and Marimekko still calls it its symbol of equality.
Jersey that gives
Knitted cotton jersey stretches slightly, so it slides on easily and sits smoothly around pillow and duvet.
Easier bed making
The duvet cover has hand openings at the top corners, so you can hold the duvet while you shake it into place.
Made as a pair
The pillow case and duvet cover share the same stripe and fabric, so the bed reads as one set.

Jersey for everyone
In 1968 Annika Rimala created Tasaraita, Marimekko's first tricot clothing, to be worn with jeans. The shirts were gender-fluid from the start, and the even stripes carried an open message of equality and acceptance that the house still stands behind.

From shirt to bedding
The stripe that began on cotton jersey shirts now runs across the bed in the same kind of knit. Jersey is soft and breathable, and it moves with you rather than feeling crisp, which is why it feels familiar from the first night.

Sized for a single bed
The duvet cover measures 150 x 210 cm and opens at the top corners for your hands. The 50 x 60 cm pillow case matches it, so one of each dresses a single bed, and two pillow cases suit a wider bed.

Annika Rimala was a Finnish clothing and print designer who worked at Marimekko from 1960 to 1982. In 1967 she was named one of the world's ten most influential fashion designers. She later received the State Design Prize in 1974 and the Pro Finlandia medal in 1997.
Using it at home
How do I wash it?
Machine wash at 60 °C with similar colours, and wash it on its own before the first use.
Will it shrink?
Cotton jersey can shrink by up to 5%, so avoid hot tumble drying and pull it gently into shape while damp.
What size duvet does it fit?
The cover is 150 x 210 cm, made for a single duvet of the same size.
What are the corner openings for?
They let you reach inside and hold the duvet corners while you pull the cover over it.
Does the pillow case match the duvet cover?
Yes. Both are organic cotton jersey in the Tasaraita stripe, so they are made to be used together.
