The Iso Unikko Cotton Sateen Fabric carries an oversized poppy, credited to Maija Isola and E.I. in 2022 and screen printed in Helsinki. Unikko, a symbol of creativity, was born at a time when hardly any floral designs featured in Marimekko collections. Maija Isola was fascinated by flowers and went on to design a whole range of novel floral prints.
The cloth is 100% organic cotton, unbleached, so the surface is naturally lively and small dark flecks from the cotton plant may show. Flatbed printing of large prints leaves a repeat line at the edge of the pattern, a feature of the technique rather than a fault. Made in Finland with a 380 cm repeat, it comes in Natural White / Chestnut and is sold by the metre.
