First produced in 1930 for the TECNOLUMEN collection, the AD 30 Art Déco lamp became a popular office lamp at 78 cm tall. Its open opal-glass shade scatters a gentle, ambient glow, while nickel- and chrome-plated surfaces capture early-20th-century sophistication. Each piece is sequentially numbered and bears the TECNOLUMEN mark.
TECNOLUMEN, the Bremen manufacturer best known for its authorised re-editions of Bauhaus-era classics such as Wilhelm Wagenfeld's WG 24, extends the same archival care to its Art Déco line. The AD 30 preserves the vocabulary of the 1930s, stepped metalwork, a luminous opal-glass sphere, and the interplay of polished nickel and chrome that defined the era's office and salon interiors. Sequential numbering and the maker's signet underline that this is a faithful continuation of the original design rather than a loose homage.
As a floor lamp of modest height, the AD 30 is a quietly versatile piece to style. Beside a reading chair or at the end of a sofa it delivers soft ambient light at eye level without the bulk of a full-height torchiere, a welcome trait in compact apartments, where floor space is precious and ceiling fixtures often feel harsh in the evening. It pairs naturally with both period interiors and contemporary minimalist rooms, where its glass globe reads as a warm sculptural accent. For more ways to layer light in tighter floor plans, see our guide to designer lighting for small apartments.

TECNOLUMEN
Chrome, brass and opal glass in Art Déco form
DesignerRosi Findeisen, Jo Kähne and anonymous French designers
TECNOLUMEN's Art Déco lamps go back to French models of the 1930s: a 1930 lampe de travail, a lamp found at a Paris flea market and a 1934 table lamp. A wall lamp designed by Rosi Findeisen and Jo Kähne in 1980 completes the group. Each lamp is numbered.

Machine-age polish
Nickel, chrome and brass surfaces catch and reflect the light.
Opal glass glow
AD 30, AD 32 and WAD 36 use opal glass for soft, even light.
An adjustable AD 34
Its reflector rotates and its linkage adjusts, so you can aim the light.
Numbered pieces
Each lamp is numbered and bears the TECNOLUMEN signet.

The office lamp of 1930
Similar models of the AD 30 lampe de travail were popular office lights in 1930, and one is in the Centre Pompidou. At 78 cm it sits between table and floor lamp, ideal beside a low table, with an open opal shade.

Spheres and cones
The AD 32 sets an opal glass ball on a chrome-plated bowl, held by three brass or chrome balls. The AD 34, after an anonymous French lamp of 1934, combines cylinders and cones in brushed aluminium and chrome.

A wall light from 1980
Rosi Findeisen and Jo Kähne designed the WAD 36 in 1980. Its clear geometric form recalls a torch. Made in chrome or polished brass, it holds opal glass that casts a soft pattern of light.
Materials
- Chrome-plated metal
- Bright, reflective surfaces; wipe with a soft, dry cloth.
- Polished brass
- Warm alternative on the AD 32 and WAD 36; avoid abrasive polish.
- Opal glass
- Spreads gentle light on the AD 30, AD 32 and WAD 36.
Three of these lamps come from French makers of the 1930s whose names have not been traced; TECNOLUMEN found the AD 32 at a Paris flea market. Rosi Findeisen and Jo Kähne designed the WAD 36 in 1980. TECNOLUMEN revises each design for today's light sources.
Using it at home
Which bulbs do they take?
AD 30, AD 32 and WAD 36 take one E27 bulb, with a 7–8 W matt LED recommended. AD 34 takes two clear 4 W E14 LED filament candle bulbs.
How do I aim the AD 34?
Rotate the reflector and adjust the linkage until the light falls where you need it.
Is the AD 30 a table or floor lamp?
Both, in a way. At 78 cm it suits a low table or the floor beside a sofa.
Which finishes are made?
AD 32 and WAD 36 come in chrome or polished brass. AD 30 combines nickel and chrome; AD 34 brushed aluminium and chrome.
How do I clean them?
Let the lamp cool. Dust metal with a soft, dry cloth and wipe the opal glass with a damp cloth.
