The Ferm Living Apple Braided Shelf is braided from rattan in a familiar apple silhouette, with a stem and leaf detail that is threaded on by hand before the shelf goes up on the wall. It is a warm, cheerful storage solution that holds its own as a decorative piece in a child's room.
Braided rattan is worked around an inner iron structure, in Natural. The shelf measures 70 cm wide, 68 cm high and 12.5 cm deep and weighs 3.9 kg. Wipe it with a damp cloth. As this is a hand braided item, variations may occur.

Apple & Pear Braided is Ferm Living's family of fruit-shaped storage for children's rooms. Baskets, wall pockets, shelves and mirrors are braided by hand from natural rattan, and two rugs are braided from undyed jute, so no two pieces are exactly alike.

Braided by hand
Every piece is hand-braided, so small variations in colour and shape belong to the making.
Storage that decorates
The fruit outlines, with green rattan leaves on the wall pockets, look good on a wall or floor even when full of toys.
A size for everything
Baskets run from 28 cm to 83 cm tall, from a few soft toys up to blankets and big teddies.
Simple to care for
The rattan pieces need only a damp cloth, and the jute rugs are vacuum cleaned.
Two fruits, many forms
The series follows two familiar outlines. Apple is round and Pear tapers to the top, and both appear as floor baskets, wall pockets, mirrors and jute rugs. The shelves get a stem and leaf detail that is threaded on by hand before mounting.
Rattan over iron
Floor baskets are braided entirely from rattan. Wall pockets and shelves are braided around an inner iron structure so they keep their shape when loaded with books, and the mirrors sit on a plywood backplate inside a thick rattan frame.
Soft jute underfoot
The two rugs are hand-braided from natural, undyed jute. Apple measures 110 x 120 cm and Pear 95 x 140 cm, enough for a play corner or beside a bed, and both are cared for with a vacuum cleaner only.

Ferm Living was founded in Copenhagen in 2006 by graphic designer Trine Andersen, who started out because she was missing wallpaper designs for her new house. Apple & Pear belongs to its kids' range, where fruit shapes become storage. The wall pockets, shelves and jute rugs are registered designs.
Using it at home
How do I clean the rattan pieces?
Wipe them with a damp cloth. The mirrors can also be cleaned gently with a soft sponge and mild detergent.
How is the braided shelf put up?
The stem and leaf detail is threaded on by hand, then the shelf is mounted on the wall. The Pear version is shaped to fit a corner.
How big are the shelves?
The Apple shelf is 70 x 68 x 12.5 cm and the Pear corner shelf 24 x 68 x 24.5 cm.
