The Marimekko Oiva / Siirtolapuutarha Serving Dish is a rectangular white stoneware dish from the Oiva range by Sami Ruotsalainen, with the pattern running around the outer rim. Maija Louekari drew Siirtolapuutarha in 2009 as a line drawing of the journey from the busy city centre out to an allotment garden full of flowers and vegetables.
Made in Thailand from 100% white stoneware, it measures 18 x 25 cm and is dishwasher, oven, microwave and freezer safe, so it can go from oven to table and back to the fridge. It comes in White / Black. Remove the sticker from the base before use, as it contains a small amount of metal.
Use it for a gratin or a side of roast vegetables, or as a shallow bowl for fruit on the counter. See the matching Oiva pieces in the Marimekko collection.

Oiva / Siirtolapuutarha: a 2009 city garden on stoneware
DesignerMaija Louekari
Siirtolapuutarha, Finnish for city garden, is a line drawing by Maija Louekari from 2009. It follows a journey from a bustling city centre to an allotment overflowing with flowers and vegetables. It sits on Oiva stoneware, the everyday shapes Sami Ruotsalainen designed in the same year.

A story round the rim
The drawing travels from city streets to garden beds around each piece.
Daily stoneware
White stoneware made for everyday use and frequent washing.
A whole table
Mugs, cups, bowls, plates, serving dishes and a teapot.
Mix with Oiva
Combines with plain white Oiva and other Oiva prints.
City to allotment
Siirtolapuutarha begins in a busy city centre and ends in an allotment garden full of flowers and vegetables. Louekari drew it as a playful line drawing that reads clearly on small plates and large serving dishes alike.
Drawn for the table
Louekari drew patterns for Oiva from the start. She says the side of the mug where you drink must be perfect, since you see it up close. On serving dishes the drawing runs round the outer rim.
From espresso to serving
The range runs from the espresso cup and 8.5 cm plate to the 25 cm dinner plate and 1.5 l bowl. The teapot holds 7 dl, and two serving dishes bring food to the table. Every piece shares the same Oiva lines.
Materials
- White stoneware
- Made in Thailand; dense, durable and food safe.
- Ceramic decal
- The line drawing is fired onto the glaze for daily use.
- Wood on the teapot
- Wash the teapot by hand and do not soak the wooden parts.
Maija Louekari was born in 1982 and studied at the University of Art and Design Helsinki. In 2003 she won a design competition run by the university and Marimekko, and she has drawn for the house ever since. Her prints come from everyday life, the city and Finnish forests.
