Description

The Pieni Kurre Oven Mitt wears the small-scale squirrel print that Aino-Maija Metsola designed in 2023, drawn with brush and ink and extending her tales from the forest. The fabric is printed in Helsinki, and the mitt has a padded lining and a hanging loop.

It is cut from unbleached cotton panama with 50% recycled cotton, and the padding is 50% recycled polyester. Unbleached and recycled fibres give the cloth a naturally lively colour, so small variations between pieces are normal. The mitt measures 15 x 31.5 cm in Sky Blue / Multicolour. Keep it away from oven heating elements and open flame.

Pair it with the Pieni Kurre pot holder and apron from the Marimekko collection.

Kurre: Aino-Maija Metsola's 2023 squirrels in ink

DesignerAino-Maija Metsola

Aino-Maija Metsola designed Kurre in 2023, extending her tales from the forest. A lively brood of squirrels gathers and hides nuts across the cloth, drawn with brush and ink on paper after the squirrels she watched in her childhood yard. It is printed in Helsinki on kitchen textiles.

Squirrels at work

Kurre shows a busy group of squirrels collecting and stashing nuts. Metsola painted the original on paper with brush and ink, so the lines keep the movement of her hand. The squirrels seem to dart across the cloth.

Small scale for small pieces

The pot holder and oven mitt use Pieni Kurre, the small-scale version. Both are padded, with a filling that is half recycled polyester, and have a hanging loop for the hook by the hob.

Using it at home

How do I wash Kurre textiles?

Wash before first use, with like colours, at the temperature on the care label.

How big is the oven mitt?

It is 31.5 cm long and 15 cm wide, with a padded lining.

Are the mitt and pot holder heat protective?

Yes, they are padded for hot dishes. Keep them dry, as damp cloth conducts heat.

Is there a matching cookie cutter?

Yes. A 15 x 10 cm stainless steel Kurre cookie cutter shares the squirrel shape.

Which other prints go with Kurre?

Metsola's Ketunmarja shares the same forest mood and also comes as kitchen textiles and cookie cutters.
