This heavyweight cotton is printed in Helsinki with Piirto Ketunmarja, designed by Aino-Maija Metsola in 2018. The print includes golden metal pigment details, so the pattern shifts quietly with the light rather than sitting flat on the cloth.
The fabric is a cotton blend in which 25% of the cotton is recycled and 25% organic, with a pattern repeat of 88 cm, and it is sold by the metre so you can order the exact length you need. It comes in Off-White / Gold. Wash with like colours at the stated temperature; shrinkage is a maximum of 4%.
Use it for a festive tablecloth, cushion covers or a blind, to pair with pieces from the Marimekko collection.

Ketunmarja: Aino-Maija Metsola's 2018 dusk garden
DesignerAino-Maija Metsola
Aino-Maija Metsola drew Ketunmarja, meaning foxberry, for Marimekko in 2018. It shows foxes slipping into a garden at dusk while small birds perch in a yew. The print appears here at small scale as Pieni Ketunmarja and as Piirto Ketunmarja, a fine line drawing in golden pigment.

A story in the print
Foxes, birds and a yew tree at dusk give the pattern a quiet, mysterious mood.
Printed in Helsinki
The fabrics are printed at Marimekko's own factory in Helsinki.
Gold that catches light
Piirto Ketunmarja uses golden metal pigment, so the drawing shifts with the light.
Kitchen and sofa
Oven mitten, pot holder and towel share the print with a cushion cover and fabric.

Foxes in the garden
Ketunmarja is set at dusk. Foxes sneak into a garden, and small birds sit in the branches of a yew. Metsola gives the scene an enchanting, slightly mysterious feel that suits autumn and winter rooms.

Two ways to draw it
Pieni Ketunmarja is the small-scale version for kitchen textiles. Piirto Ketunmarja turns the motif into a fine line drawing printed in golden pigment on unbleached cotton, for cushions and fabric.

Cloth for the kitchen
The oven mitten and pot holder are cotton panama with half the cotton recycled, padded and fitted with a hanging loop. The kitchen towel mixes organic cotton and linen, which dries glasses without leaving lint.
Materials
- Unbleached cotton panama
- Half recycled cotton; unbleached fibres keep the natural tone of the cloth.
- Organic cotton and linen
- 57% organic cotton and 43% linen in the towel, absorbent and lint-free on glass.
- Golden metal pigment
- Used on Piirto pieces; wash inside out and iron on the reverse.
