A story in line
One drawing travels from the city centre out to the allotment.
Printed in Helsinki
Every piece is printed at Marimekko's own factory.
Each piece unique
Totes and placemats are cut from the full fabric width, so the print falls differently.
Kitchen ready
Apron, oven mitten, pot holder, towel and wipe-clean placemat.

Out to the allotment
City allotments, with their flower and vegetable beds, are urban nature at its best. Louekari's drawing follows the trip from a crowded centre to a plot in bloom, in a playful black line.

Pieni for small pieces
Pieni Siirtolapuutarha is the small-scale variation, used on the oven mitten, pot holder and placemat. Its blossoms fit neatly on small surfaces while the full scale suits fabric and bags.

Cloth for daily use
The apron is cotton with a front pocket and adjustable neck band. The towel is 57% cotton and 43% linen, woven in Estonia, with a green picot edge. Placemats are acrylic coated and wipe clean.
Materials
- Organic cotton
- Heavyweight cloth for fabric, totes and kitchen pieces.
- Acrylic coated cotton
- Wipes clean with a damp cloth, ideal for placemats.
- Cotton and linen
- Absorbent towel cloth that dries glasses without lint.
Maija Louekari was born in 1982 and studied at the University of Art and Design Helsinki. In 2003 she won a design competition run by the university and Marimekko, and she has drawn for the house ever since. Her prints come from everyday life, the city and Finnish forests.
