The Marimekko Sukat Makkaralla Stemware is mouth blown in clear glass, with a folded bowl raised on a stem. Anu Penttinen designed the Sukat Makkaralla series, socks rolled down, after a sock leg that has slumped carelessly down.
Made in Thailand from 100% mouth blown glass, the glass holds 3 dl and is dishwasher safe and food safe. It comes in Clear. Because each piece is mouth blown, small variations in the folds are part of its character.
Use it for wine, water or a dessert at the table, and pair it with the Sukat Makkaralla pitcher from the Marimekko collection.

Sukat Makkaralla: Anu Penttinen's 2010 rolled-sock glass
DesignerAnu Penttinen
Finnish glass designer Anu Penttinen created Sukat Makkaralla for Marimekko in 2010. The name means socks rolled down, and the soft folds in the glass recall a sock slumped around the ankle. Each piece is mouth-blown, so small bubbles and slight variations are part of its character.

Play at the table
Wavy folds make everyday glass a little funny and very Marimekko.
Made by mouth
Each piece is mouth-blown, so no two are exactly alike.
A full set
Pitcher, tumblers, flutes and stemware share the rolled-down form.
A glassmaker's hand
Designed by a Finnish glassmaker whose studio is in the Nuutajärvi glass village.
Socks rolled down
The idea is simple and funny: a sock leg that has carelessly slumped down. Penttinen turned those soft folds into glass to bring some joy to the dinner table. The folds also give the hand something to hold.
Blown by hand
Each piece is mouth-blown in Thailand. Small air bubbles and slight differences in size and weight are signs of the method. The folds catch light differently on every glass, so a set never looks mechanical.
From water to bubbles
The 1 l pitcher, 23 cm tall and 9 cm across, serves water and juice at the table. The 2 dl tumbler suits everyday drinks, the 1.5 dl flute sparkling wine, and the 3 dl stemware wine at dinner.
