Overlay the Ideal Table Lamp

Overlay is a desk lamp where poetry meets advanced technology, created with Montblanc. It lights up automatically when you lift the Montblanc pen from its leather holder at the base, while a separate courtesy LED keeps a soft glow even when the main light is off. Crafted from satin-finished brass with a shade in Slamp’s unbreakable materials, it is both elegant and durable.

Overlay is the meeting of two very different craft traditions. Slamp, founded in Rome in 1994 by Roberto Ziliani, has built its reputation on patented polymer materials that allow shapes and light effects impossible in glass — lightweight, shatterproof and worked by hand in the company’s Italian atelier. Montblanc, the Hamburg maison celebrated for its writing instruments since the early twentieth century, contributes the ritual at the heart of the lamp: the pen itself. Lifting it from the leather rest wakes the light, turning the simple act of sitting down to write into a small ceremony — a rare example of interaction design expressed through craftsmanship rather than screens.

Overlay belongs on a desk that means something to its owner — a home study, a library corner, a writing table by the window. The satin brass and leather warm up muted, classic interiors, while the soft courtesy glow makes it a refined night-time presence in a bedroom workspace.
