Soft Spot is a family of cordless lanterns and LED lamps by Danish designer Maria Berntsen for Rosendahl. A light sphere seems to float inside a frame that protects it and doubles as stand and handle, charged by the sun under the shade or by USB.

Every Soft Spot runs on a rechargeable battery, so it goes from dining table to terrace without a socket.
Charged by the sun
Solar cells under the shade charge the lantern in daylight, and USB takes over on grey days.

A sphere held in place
In the original Soft Spot Solar a powder coated steel frame wraps the floating light sphere in one stroke, protecting it and forming base and handle. The lantern comes in 18.5, 25 and 34 cm, in black or olive green.
Circles and dots
Soft Spot Solar Circular builds the same idea from repeated circles in GRS certified recycled plastic, designed to be taken apart for recycling. Soft Spot Solar Dots sets a floating hemisphere on a conical base, in three diameters.
Indoor glow without flames
The small Soft Spot LED lamps in hand pressed glass give a gently flickering light as a clean alternative to candles. The 24.5 cm Soft Spot table lamp has a dimmer and sits on its own charging base.

- The frame of the classic solar lantern is coated steel that handles rain and wind; wipe it with a damp cloth.
- GRS recycled plastics
- Circular and Dots use 100% GRS certified recycled polycarbonate, ABS and TPE, made for separation at end of life.
- Hand pressed glass
- The LED lamps have hand pressed painted glass shades; keep them away from water and wipe with a dry cloth.
Maria Berntsen graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and the École d'Architecture de Bordeaux. She designs lighting, furniture and decoration, draws on architecture, nature and fashion, and loves glass for its lightness, as seen in Soft Spot and Holmegaard's Design with Light.

How long does a Soft Spot Solar lantern shine?
About 15 hours on a full charge; the Circular version gives 15 to 18 hours.
How do I charge it without sun?
Use a USB cable; the classic solar lantern takes 1 to 4 hours by USB and 7 to 10 hours in direct sun. Circular and Dots charge by USB-C, cable not included.
Can the lanterns stay outside all year?
The solar models withstand rain and wind and can stand outside down to minus 20°C.
