VP Globe Pendant Opal Glass Ø40

The VP Globe Opal Glass pairs a crystal-clear acrylic outer sphere with five opal-white glass reflectors on three steel chains. Designed by Verner Panton to unify a room — alone or in clusters — this Ø40 cm version suits dining tables, hallways or any space needing a sculptural touch; also available in Ø50 cm.

The VP Globe dates from 1969, the height of Verner Panton's space-age period, when the Danish designer was staging his famous Visiona environments and rewriting the rules of what a lamp could be. His idea here was radical in its simplicity: make the outer shell transparent and turn the inner workings — a floating arrangement of reflectors on fine steel chains — into the design itself. Every VP Globe is a lamp you look into as much as at. The design remains in production with Verpan, the Danish manufacturer that produces Verner Panton's lighting to his original specifications, keeping one of the most recognisable silhouettes of twentieth-century design alive.

The Opal Glass edition is the gentlest voice in the VP Globe family. Where the brass and aluminium versions play with metallic reflections, here the five reflectors are made of opal-white glass, so the light is doubled-softened — first diffused through the milky glass, then floated inside the clear acrylic sphere. The result reads like a constellation of small moons suspended in a bubble: calm, even, and flattering to everything beneath it. It is the version to choose when you want the sculpture without the glamour — in pale Scandinavian interiors, minimalist spaces, or rooms that already have plenty of texture and need a quiet focal point.

At Ø40 cm, this size is especially easy to live with in compact homes. It has enough presence to define a dining nook or entry hall, yet the transparent shell keeps sightlines open, so even in a small city apartment it adds drama without bulk.
