Designed by Wilhelm Wagenfeld in 1930 as a bedside lamp that doubles as a wall lamp, the WNL 30 has two adjustable joints. TECNOLUMEN's version features a nickel-plated finish with a warm metallic sheen — ideal for pianos, shelves or reading areas, embodying Bauhaus adaptability. Numbered and stamped with the TECNOLUMEN insignia.

Wilhelm Wagenfeld trained in the metal workshop of the Bauhaus in Weimar, where he absorbed the school's conviction that everyday objects should be honest, functional and quietly beautiful. He went on to become one of Germany's most influential industrial designers, and the WNL 30 shows his thinking at its most practical: rather than design separate lamps for the nightstand and the wall, he created one object that does both. The two articulated joints let the shade swivel and the arm fold, so the lamp adapts to the task instead of the other way around — a thoroughly modern idea expressed in 1930. TECNOLUMEN, the Bremen-based manufacturer entrusted with producing Wagenfeld's lighting designs, builds each WNL 30 to the original specification; every piece is individually numbered and carries the TECNOLUMEN stamp as proof of authenticity.

That built-in flexibility makes the WNL 30 a quiet hero in smaller homes. In a compact bedroom it earns its keep twice over: resting on the nightstand for evening reading, or mounted beside the headboard to free the surface entirely — a trick worth knowing in Asian city apartments where bedside space is often measured in centimetres. Its nickel sheen sits comfortably against pale walls, oak veneer and linen bedding, and the modest scale means it never dominates. Beyond the bedroom, try it on an upright piano as Wagenfeld's contemporaries did, on a hallway shelf, or angled over a reading chair where its directed light does real work.

The WNL 30 belongs to a family of Bauhaus-era designs you can explore in our TECNOLUMEN collection, from the famous glass-domed table lamp to pendants and sconces. If wall mounting appeals, our wall lamps range offers further space-saving options, and for a broader look at making considered lighting choices in tight quarters, our guide to designer lighting for small apartments is a useful companion. Few lamps deliver this much design history in such a modest footprint: the WNL 30 is Bauhaus pragmatism you can hold in your hands, made properly, numbered and built to outlast trends.

Light source: E27 (E26 compatible), 1 bulb, max 60 W. IP20, indoor. Bulb not included — we recommend an E27 LED (4.5–9 W, 470–805 lm).
