This Marimekko cotton linen carries the Räsymatto pattern, printed in Helsinki and sold by the metre. Maija Louekari drew Räsymatto, meaning rag rug, in 2009. Inspired by allotment gardening, it speaks of sustainable living and the joy of working with your hands, and of the colourful story a rag rug tells on the floor of an allotment cottage.
The cloth contains 48% cotton, 31% cotton and 21% linen, of which 48% of the cotton is recycled and 21% organic, and it has a 62 cm pattern repeat. It comes in Linen / Black. Wash with like colours, follow the washing temperature given and allow for shrinkage of up to 6%. Made in Finland.
Its linen content gives a dry, natural handle for curtains and cushion covers, next to the aprons and towels in the Marimekko collection.

A rug turned print
The woven stripes of a Finnish rag rug, drawn by hand.
Crisp percale bedding
Organic cotton percale that stays cool and fresh.
Bath to kitchen
Towels, bathrobe, apron, mitten and pillow cases share the print.
Part of a family
Matches Siirtolapuutarha, Puutarhurin parhaat and Oiva tableware.

From the cottage floor
The print imitates the texture of traditional Finnish rag rugs. Louekari imagined a colourful rug on the floor of an allotment cottage and drew its uneven woven stripes as a pattern for cloth.

For the bedroom
The duvet covers and pillow cases are organic cotton percale, 200 TC, a crisp, closely woven cloth that feels cool. Sizes cover single and double duvets and Nordic square and rectangular pillows.

Bath and kitchen
Bath, hand, guest and mini towels and the bathrobe are organic cotton terry. The apron, kitchen towel, pot holder and oven mitten use a cotton and linen blend with recycled cotton.
Materials
- Organic cotton percale
- Crisp and breathable; wash at the temperature on the label and iron while damp.
- Organic cotton terry
- Absorbent towels; skip fabric softener to keep them so.
- Cotton and linen blend
- With recycled cotton; strong, quick drying kitchen cloth.
Maija Louekari was born in 1982 and studied at the University of Art and Design Helsinki. In 2003 she won a design competition run by the university and Marimekko, and she has drawn for the house ever since. Her prints come from everyday life, the city and Finnish forests.
