Conceived by Verner Panton in 1969, the VP Globe is one of his most iconic lights — a transparent acrylic shell holding five internal reflectors on steel chains. This version introduces matte brushed-aluminium reflectors accented with warm orange — an uplifting contrast to the cool metal, developed in line with Panton's original colour theories with the Panton estate. Ø40 cm.
Verner Panton spent his career pushing Danish design somewhere it had never been: into plastics, pop colour and the futuristic optimism of the space age. The VP Globe of 1969 belongs to the same era as his legendary Visiona exhibitions, and it shows. Rather than concealing the bulb behind an opaque shade, Panton hung a sculpture of curved reflectors inside a clear acrylic sphere, turning the mechanics of light into the spectacle itself — a small planet with its own glowing core. Light bounces between the reflectors before leaving the sphere, so the glow is soft and free of glare from every angle. The lamp is produced today by Verpan, the Danish manufacturer devoted to Panton's lighting, and this brushed-aluminium colourway was developed together with the Panton estate, drawing directly on the designer's lifelong fascination with colour psychology.
Where the classic chrome version is all gleam, the brushed-aluminium edition is quieter and more contemporary. The matte, silvery reflectors read as crisp and architectural, while the warm orange accents inject exactly the kind of energising colour jolt Panton loved — cool and warm held in deliberate tension. It is a finish that sits naturally in modern interiors: pale walls, concrete or stone surfaces, black steel details, light timber floors. By day the orange peeks through the transparent shell like a hidden signal; by night it warms the aluminium glow from within.
At Ø40 cm, this is the size that works almost anywhere. It is generous enough to anchor a dining table or reading corner, yet because the sphere is transparent it never visually crowds a room — a genuine advantage in compact city apartments, where a solid pendant of the same diameter would dominate. Try it over a small dining table, in an entryway, or beside a window where daylight can play through the acrylic. Light source: E14, 1 bulb, max 60 W. IP20, indoor. Bulb not included — we recommend an E14 LED (6.5–7 W, 790–806 lm).
