Hive Pendant Yellow

The Hive pendant casts direct downward light through layered shades that diffuse a soft glow across the room. Verner Panton's skillful use of geometric and organic forms shows in the concentric shades of varying sizes, creating a sculptural, glare-free design. Available in yellow and aluminium finishes.

Few designers married geometry and joy as confidently as Verner Panton (1926–1998). An architect by training who began in Arne Jacobsen's studio, Panton broke with Danish restraint to build interiors of pure colour and sensory delight — and lighting was always at the centre of those visions. The Hive condenses his thinking into a single object: concentric shades stacked like the tiers of a beehive, each layer intercepting the bulb's glare and bending the light downward, so the fixture reads as sculpture while working hard as a lamp. It is produced today by VERPAN, the Danish company devoted to manufacturing Panton's lighting designs to their original specifications.

In its yellow finish, Hive does what Panton did best — it commits to colour. The saturated shade turns the pendant into a cheerful focal point over a dining table, a kitchen island or a child's corner, and the glow it casts is warmed by the painted surfaces it bounces from. Because the layered construction is fully glare-free, it can hang low and intimate; in the compact apartments of dense Asian cities a single Hive can anchor the dining zone of an open-plan room, with the colour carrying as much identity as a piece of art. Keep surrounding lighting neutral and let the yellow lead, or echo it with a cushion or vase for a composed look.
