The Marimekko Mini Vase is a tiny mouth-blown glass vase designed by Carina Seth Andersson. Because it is made using traditional artisanal techniques, it may hold air bubbles and other marks of the craft, and size and weight can vary a little from piece to piece, which is part of the charm of hand-blown glass.
Blown in Thailand from 100% glass, it stands 6 cm high with a diameter of 5.5 cm, and comes in Yellow, Green, Powder / Orange, Mint / Petrol and Light Yellow. Hand washing is recommended.
Line several colours along a shelf for single stems or a few sprigs of herbs, and find more glass in the Marimekko collection.

Marimekko
Five mouth-blown vases by Carina Seth Andersson
DesignerCarina Seth Andersson
Swedish designer Carina Seth Andersson drew this family of glass vases for Marimekko. Each one is mouth-blown into a mould, so small air bubbles and slight shifts in size and weight are part of every piece. The shapes run from a 6 cm Mini to the 30 cm Pilari column.

Made by mouth
Each vase is blown into a mould by hand, so no two are exactly alike.
A size for every bunch
The Mini holds a single stem, the Urna takes a generous armful.
Colour that holds light
Coloured and clear glass glow when daylight passes through the walls.
Shapes that group well
Set two or three different heights together on a table or windowsill.

Marks of the craft
Mouth-blowing leaves its traces. Small air bubbles, slight changes in wall thickness and a little variation in height and weight show that a glassblower shaped each piece. They are signs of the method, not faults.

From bud to pillar
Umpu has a rounded, bud-like body 20 cm high. Urna opens to 30 cm across for full bouquets. Pilari, Finnish for pillar, stands 30 cm tall and weighs 2.3 kg, enough presence for the floor or a large table.

Small pieces, small rituals
The Mini, 6 cm high, and the Flower, 10.4 cm high, are made for short stems: one tulip, a sprig from the garden, a few twigs. Lined up along a shelf they read as a small collection.

Carina Seth Andersson is a Swedish designer, born in 1965, known for glass and ceramics with a minimal, functional approach. She has taught design at Konstfack, the arts university in Sweden's capital. Her vases for Marimekko pair simple outlines with the colour and life of hand-blown glass.
Using it at home
Can the vases go in the dishwasher?
No. Wash them by hand in warm water and dry them with a soft cloth.
Are the bubbles in the glass a defect?
No. They come from mouth-blowing and show that each vase was made by hand.
Which vase suits which flowers?
Use the Mini and Flower for single stems, Umpu for a small bunch, and Urna or Pilari for long branches and large bouquets.
Will two vases of the same model match exactly?
Not exactly. Size, weight and colour depth vary a little from piece to piece.
How do I keep the glass clear?
Change the water often and rinse the vase after each bouquet so no marks build up inside.
