The Marimekko Tote Bag is made from upcycled cotton printed in Helsinki, with the Marimekko label sewn onto one side. It is cut from leftover material from Marimekko production, so each bag is unique.
Made in Estonia from 100% upcycled cotton, the bag measures 44 x 43 cm. Colours and patterns differ from the one pictured, and the bags are sold individually rather than as a set. Follow the washing temperature given.

The fabric comes from Marimekko's own printing works in Helsinki.
Leftovers put to use
Offcuts that would otherwise be waste become a sturdy everyday bag.
Light and flat
At 90 g it folds flat into a larger bag, ready for a market run.
Made from what is left
Printing and cutting fabric always leaves remnants. Marimekko sews these offcuts into simple totes, so the cotton gets a second use. Each bag carries a sewn Marimekko label on one side.
Printed in Helsinki
About one million metres of fabric are printed in Marimekko's Helsinki factory each year, on flatbed and rotary machines, from an archive of more than 3,500 prints. The cotton in this bag comes from that production.
A surprise in every bag
The totes are sewn in Estonia and sold one at a time, not as a set. You cannot choose the print: it might be a classic, a recent pattern or a bold close-up of one, which is the charm of it.

Marimekko has printed its fabrics in Helsinki for decades. Its factory runs a colour kitchen, a screen workshop and a test lab, and checks every metre before it leaves. These totes take the remnants of that work and turn them into bags, one random print at a time.
