The Panthella 250 Portable is a cordless table lamp from Verner Panton's Panthella family for Louis Poulsen. Its 25 cm shade and trumpet-shaped base act as one continuous reflector, giving the soft, glare-free glow the design has been loved for since 1971.
Panton, Danish design's great colourist, conceived the Panthella so that no light source is ever visible, only its reflected light. Louis Poulsen's rechargeable versions carry that idea beyond the wall socket.
Large enough to stand in for a corded table lamp, it moves from dining table to balcony to bedside as the evening demands. Browse our full range of portable lamps or the Verner Panton collection.
Light source: built-in LED, 6 W, 2700 K (456 lm); step dimming via the touch switch on top. About 5.5 hours of light at 33% brightness, USB-C charging. IP44 (indoor & outdoor).

Louis Poulsen
A full-size Panthella that runs on battery
DesignerVerner Panton1926–1998
The Panthella 250 Portable has a 25 cm shade and a trumpet base, two reflectors that hide the light source completely. Verner Panton drew the shape in 1971. This version adds a rechargeable LED and an IP44 rating, so it works indoors and outdoors.

Big enough for the table
At 25 cm across and 456 lumens, it gives enough light to stand in for a corded table lamp.
Inside and outside
The IP44 rating lets you take it from the dining table to the balcony or terrace.
Long evenings
Two replaceable Li-Po batteries give up to 79 hours at the lowest setting.
Panton's own palette
The range includes the Original opal colours in red, orange, green and brown, reissued by Louis Poulsen in 2026.

Light you see, a bulb you don't
The shade directs the light down onto the curved base, which spreads it back out. Neither the LED nor a bright spot is visible. The whole lamp reads as one soft shape of light.

From dinner to the terrace
Set it on the dining table while you eat, then carry it outside for the rest of the evening. It weighs about 1 kg and has no cable to unplug.

Opal or opaque
Opal acrylic shades glow through, so the lamp itself lights up. Opaque polycarbonate shades hold a solid colour and send all the light downward.
Materials
- Acrylic or polycarbonate shade
- Opal versions are injection-moulded acrylic, opaque colours are polycarbonate.
- Polycarbonate base
- The trumpet base is injection-moulded polycarbonate, with ABS on the chrome versions.
- Rechargeable LED
- A 6 W, 2700 K LED with step dimming and USB-C charging.
Panton was a Danish designer and architect who began in Arne Jacobsen's office. He used strong colour and synthetic materials to create warm, bold rooms. Louis Poulsen has made the Panthella since 1971.
Using it at home
How long does one charge last?
About 5.5 hours at the higher settings and up to 79 hours at 10%.
How do I dim it?
A short press on the touch switch on top steps through 10%, 33% and 100%. A long press locks the controls.
Can I use it outdoors?
Yes. It is rated IP44, so it suits balconies, terraces and garden tables. Bring it inside to charge.
How do I charge it?
Use the USB-C cord with an adapter of at least 1.5 A. The indicator under the base shows charging. A full charge takes about 5 hours.
How do I clean it?
Wipe with a soft, lightly damp cloth and dry it afterward.
