AJ Mini Table Lamp

Arne Jacobsen designed the AJ Mini Table lamp for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen in 1957. Its white-painted inner shade directs light downward and tilts for adjustable distribution. Reintroduced by Louis Poulsen in 2020 for the hotel's 60th anniversary — including the original stainless-steel versions — the AJ Mini complements any space.

The SAS Royal Hotel was Jacobsen's total work of art: the Danish architect shaped everything from the tower itself to the furniture, textiles and lighting inside it. The AJ lamps share their tilted, asymmetric profile with the Swan and Egg chairs created for the same building, and the family has been produced ever since by Louis Poulsen, the Copenhagen lighting house founded in 1874. The 2020 anniversary edition returned the design to its original guest-room scale — and to the stainless steel finish of the very first hotel lamps — making the Mini both a faithful piece of design history and the most apartment-friendly member of the family.

That smaller scale is exactly what makes the AJ Mini so useful in compact homes. It sits comfortably on a bedside table, a windowsill, a desk edge or a shallow shelf where the full-size AJ Table would feel imposing, and the tilting shade lets you aim light at a book, a keyboard or the wall for a softer indirect mood.
