Panto Pendant Ø50

A decorative pendant with a crystal-clear acrylic outer sphere and four white reflectors suspended on three steel chains. The white is subtly interrupted by a splash of red, visible only from below — classic Verner Panton.

Verner Panton (1926–1998) remains one of the most original voices in Danish design. Trained as an architect at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and an early collaborator in Arne Jacobsen's studio, he broke away from the restrained Nordic mainstream to pursue saturated colour, geometry and entirely new materials. Spheres held a lifelong fascination for him: in designs such as the celebrated VP Globe of 1969, the light source disappears inside a transparent acrylic shell, and it is the suspended reflectors — not the bulb — that shape the light. The Panto Pendant carries this signature idea forward, its white reflector discs bouncing a soft, glare-free glow in every direction while the hidden flash of red rewards anyone who looks up. Today the lamp is produced by VERPAN, the Danish company founded in 2003 to manufacture Panton's designs faithfully to his original drawings.

At Ø50, this is a statement piece — yet a surprisingly easy one to live with. Because the outer sphere is fully transparent, the lamp reads as light and almost weightless in a room, making it one of the rare large pendants that works in compact urban apartments as well as generous open-plan spaces. Hang it centred over a round dining table, in a double-height stairwell, or as a sculptural focal point in a living room where it can be admired from below.
