Fun Pendant 11DM

The Fun 11DM is a large pendant with a five-ring chrome frame, part of Verner Panton's iconic Fun collection, celebrated since 1964. Its cascading seashell discs create a shimmering, elegant glow.

The Fun series of 1964 shows Verner Panton (1926–1998) at his most sensory. A former assistant to Arne Jacobsen, Panton had broken with Denmark's craft tradition to chase colour, movement and atmosphere — and for Fun he found them in an unlikely material: thin discs of natural mother-of-pearl. Each disc is cut by hand and hung in overlapping curtains from a simple metal frame, so the lamp glitters like light on water and answers every passing breeze with a soft, chime-like rustle. Because no two shells share the same iridescence, every lamp is subtly one of a kind. With five tiers of discs, the 11DM is among the most generous expressions of the idea — a full cascade of pearl from ceiling toward table. The five-ring cascade gives the Fun 11DM real vertical presence, which makes it wonderful over a dining table, in a stairwell or anywhere the eye can travel down its tiers. The mother-of-pearl glow is warm and festive — a natural host above dinners and celebrations. In compact apartments, let it hang low over the table: the length that might crowd a hallway becomes pure theatre above a setting of plates and glasses, and the reflective shells brighten rooms with limited daylight. Chrome and pearl lean cool and luminous, pairing beautifully with pale woods, glass and soft neutrals.
