Fun XL Pendant 7DM

The Fun 7DM is an XL ceiling-mounted lamp with a wide single-cluster configuration, part of Verner Panton's renowned Fun collection — a lighting masterpiece since 1964.

Verner Panton conceived the Fun series in 1964 as a deliberate departure from everything a lamp was supposed to be in Denmark at the time. In place of a fixed shade, he hung hand-cut mother-of-pearl discs in overlapping rows from a metal frame — a shade that moves, shimmers and even sounds, releasing a soft chime whenever the air stirs. It was a sensory idea of lighting that Panton, formed at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and in Arne Jacobsen's studio, would pursue for the rest of his career. The grand ceiling-mounted versions carried that idea into restaurants and hotels; today VERPAN, the Danish manufacturer of Panton's lighting, produces them for homes with the same ambitions.

The 7DM spreads its shells in a wide, shallow cluster, hugging the ceiling while covering generous area — the format to choose when you want maximum shimmer with minimum drop. It suits living rooms and bedrooms where a long pendant would hang too low, and it is especially effective in compact apartments with standard ceiling heights, where it functions as both ceiling light and centrepiece. The wide spread distributes the pearly glow evenly across the room, so it can carry the ambient layer on its own, supplemented by a reading lamp where needed.
