Fun XL Pendant 4DM

The Fun 4DM is an XL ceiling-mounted lamp with a single-cluster configuration, part of Verner Panton's renowned Fun collection — celebrated since 1964.

The Fun series of 1964 marks the moment Verner Panton turned a lamp into an event. Rather than shading the bulb, he surrounded it with hand-cut mother-of-pearl discs — hundreds of them in the larger models — hung in tiers from a metal frame. The nacre softens the light into a pearly glow, and the discs answer air movement with a delicate, glassy sound. Panton, who trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and began in Arne Jacobsen's studio, deployed Fun lamps across his own legendary interior commissions, where their scale and shimmer defined entire rooms. The XL ceiling models are produced today by VERPAN, the Danish company that manufactures Panton's lighting designs.

As a ceiling-mounted piece, the 4DM delivers chandelier presence without requiring great ceiling height — a meaningful advantage in modern apartments where pendants on long cords are impractical. Its single dense cluster of shells reads as a glowing volume, making it a natural centrepiece for a living room, bedroom or dining area. In open-plan homes it can anchor one zone — the lounge or the dining corner — while smaller lamps handle the rest.
