LIGHTWORM LWS 02 Table Lamp

Walter Schnepel's 2002 LIGHTWORM LWS 02 rethinks the desk lamp with a flexible metal spine and a mirrored-tip bulb. TECNOLUMEN offers black or nickel-plated piping with a black switch on the socket; the bendable body can be coiled or straightened at will. Each piece is sequentially numbered.

Walter Schnepel is best known as the founder of TECNOLUMEN, the Bremen manufactory he established in 1980 to produce the first authorised re-edition of Wilhelm Wagenfeld's WG 24 Bauhaus table lamp. Alongside curating Bauhaus classics, Schnepel has designed pieces of his own, and LIGHTWORM is among the most playful: a lamp reduced to little more than a flexible metal gooseneck and a bulb. The mirrored crown of the bulb hides the filament from direct view and bounces light backwards into the reflector — a simple optical trick that turns the naked bulb into a glare-controlled light source. True to TECNOLUMEN practice, every example is sequentially numbered.

The charm of LIGHTWORM is that you shape it yourself. Coil it into a compact loop for a soft pool of light on a desk, stretch it tall to graze a bookshelf, or bend it low over a keyboard.
