This heavyweight Marimekko cotton carries the Puutarhurin parhaat pattern, printed in Helsinki and sold by the metre. Inspired by the joys of allotment gardening, Maija Louekari's playful 2009 line drawing, whose name means the gardener's best harvest, belongs to the same family of prints as Siirtolapuutarha and Räsymatto.
The fabric is 100% organic cotton in a heavyweight quality, with a 62 cm pattern repeat, and comes in Light Grey / Green / Black. Wash with like colours, follow the washing temperature given and allow for shrinkage of up to 4%. Made in Finland.
Its weight suits curtains, cushion covers and roomy bags, and it sits happily with the kitchen textiles in the Marimekko collection.

Puutarhurin parhaat: Maija Louekari's 2009 harvest
DesignerMaija Louekari
Maija Louekari drew Puutarhurin parhaat, the gardener's best harvest, in 2009. The playful line drawing celebrates the joys of allotment gardening and belongs to the same family as her Siirtolapuutarha and Räsymatto. It is printed in Helsinki on cotton and wipe-clean coated cotton.

A gardener's print
The harvest of an allotment, drawn in a loose, cheerful line.
Printed in Helsinki
All pieces are printed at Marimekko's own factory.
Wipe-clean options
Coated cotton placemats and fabric clean with a damp cloth.
Pairs with its family
Mix with Siirtolapuutarha and Räsymatto, drawn in the same spirit.

Allotment joy
Louekari's three allotment prints grew from the culture of city garden plots. Puutarhurin parhaat celebrates the harvest itself, as its name, the gardener's best harvest, tells you.

For the kitchen
The apron has a front pocket and adjustable neck band. The pot holder and oven mitt are padded, with half recycled polyester filling. The cotton and linen kitchen towel has a green picot edge and a hanging loop.

Cut from the full width
The 44 x 43 cm tote and the placemats are sewn from the full width of the printed cloth, so the print falls differently on every piece. No two show quite the same part of the drawing.
Materials
- Heavyweight organic cotton
- Fabric by the metre for curtains, cushions and bags.
- Acrylic coated cotton
- Wipes clean with a damp cloth, which suits placemats and tablecloths.
- Cotton and linen
- 57% cotton and 43% linen in the towel, absorbent and lint-free.
Maija Louekari was born in 1982 and studied at the University of Art and Design Helsinki. In 2003 she won a design competition run by the university and Marimekko, and she has drawn for the house ever since. Her prints come from everyday life, the city and Finnish forests.
Using it at home
Which prints go with Puutarhurin parhaat?
Siirtolapuutarha and Räsymatto by the same designer, also from 2009.
How much fabric should I order?
Plan in whole 62 cm repeats so the drawing lines up across panels.
What is the difference between the two fabrics?
The acrylic coated fabric is wipeable for tablecloths and bags; the heavyweight cotton suits curtains and cushions.
How do I clean the coated fabric?
Wipe it with a damp cloth instead of washing.
What is the fabric made of?
Both are 100% organic cotton, one with an acrylic coating.
