Spiral Pendant SP1

The Spiral collection captures Verner Panton's experimental play with colour and form — how objects interact with their surroundings through reflection, sound and movement. The Spiral SP1 Silver/Gold is a large ceiling pendant with a single cluster of silver and gold spirals.

Few designers understood as instinctively as Verner Panton that light is experienced, not merely measured. In his celebrated interiors of the late 1960s he hung whole skies of reflective spirals overhead, letting air currents and footsteps set the ceiling in motion and proving that a lamp could behave more like weather than furniture. The SP1 concentrates that vision into a single dense cluster: silver and gold coils gathered around one light source, so the warm and cool reflections interleave more tightly than in the cascading models of the family. The result is a fixture with the presence of a chandelier and none of its formality — festive, kinetic, and impossible to photograph the same way twice. Today VERPAN of Denmark produces the Spiral series under official licence; its variations in size and finish are gathered in the VERPAN collection.

The SP1 is at its best where it can hang free and catch the eye from several angles: above a round dining table, in an entrance hall, over a stair landing or in a corner of the living room where a floor lamp would crowd the floor. Because all the sparkle comes from one concentrated cluster, it works in rooms that could not accommodate a wide cascade — a single point of glamour rather than a ceiling-filling installation, which makes it surprisingly apartment-friendly for its visual impact.
