Spiral Pendant SP3

The Spiral collection captures Verner Panton's experimental play with colour and form — how objects interact with their surroundings through reflection, sound and movement. The Spiral SP3 Silver/Gold is an XL ceiling pendant with three clusters of silver and gold spirals.

When Verner Panton designed the Spiral lamps in 1969, he was at the height of his immersive-environment period — the years of the Visiona exhibitions and the famous interiors for the Spiegel publishing house in Hamburg, where entire ceilings of mirrored spirals swayed with every draught and turned light into a living, moving surface. The SP3 is the grandest expression of that idea in the family: three full clusters of silver and gold coils descend in tiers, each catching the bulb at a slightly different angle, so the column flickers and shimmers continuously. It carries the ceremonial scale of a grand chandelier while remaining weightless, playful and entirely crystal-free — glamour by reflection rather than by mass. Three light sources and a long, tiered silhouette ask for vertical space: the SP3 excels in a stairwell, a double-height living room void or above the landing of an open staircase, where it can be admired from above and below alike. In an apartment with ordinary ceiling heights, consider it for the stair core of a maisonette or a generous entry instead — one show-stopping vertical gesture often does more for a compact home than several small fixtures.
