Poul Henningsen designed the PH Louvre in 1957 for the Adventist Church in Skodsborg, Denmark, distilling his ambitious 1942 Spiral for Aarhus University into a calmer, buildable form: thirteen horizontal shades stacked on four slender supports, forming a luminous globe. Light passes between the louvres and is reflected downward and outward in even layers, so the fixture glows as a complete sphere while the source stays hidden — 100% glare-free, as Louis Poulsen still builds it today.
With its generous diameter and soft omnidirectional glow, the PH Louvre is a natural centrepiece for spaces with height: stairwells, double-height living rooms, entrance halls or a large dining table, where the globe can float free of surrounding furniture.
