Fun XL Pendant 5DM

The Fun 5DM is an XL ceiling-mounted lamp with a two-cluster configuration, part of Verner Panton's iconic Fun collection, celebrated since 1964.

Few designers treated light as theatrically as Verner Panton (1926–1998). After early years in Arne Jacobsen's studio, the Danish architect-designer built a career on immersive colour and unconventional materials, and the Fun series of 1964 remains one of his most loved creations. Its principle is simple and magical: tiers of hand-cut mother-of-pearl discs hang from a metal frame, transforming a plain bulb into a soft, opalescent cloud. The shells stir with every air current, adding a gentle chime to the glow — a lamp that engages hearing as well as sight. VERPAN, the Danish company behind the authorised production of Panton's lighting, makes the XL ceiling models to the original design.

With two distinct clusters of shells, the 5DM has a broader, more rhythmic presence than the single-cluster models — it reads almost as a small installation across the ceiling. That makes it particularly effective over a rectangular dining table, a kitchen island or a long sideboard, where the two volumes echo the proportions below. Ceiling mounting keeps the piece practical for rooms with standard heights, including the apartment formats common in dense Asian cities, where it brings hotel-lobby glamour to a domestic scale.
